News Directory 3: Thank you for joining us today, Coach Borshoff. Can you tell us how the formation of new divisions in the EIWA will impact Binghamton wrestling?
Kyle Borshoff: Absolutely. The establishment of the Independence and Patriot Divisions is a game-changer for our program. It not only provides us with a structured framework for competition but also fosters the creation of regular matchups and local rivalries that fans and athletes alike will be excited about. We’re looking forward to more consistent competition within our division.
News Directory 3: What do you believe are the benefits of these new divisions for the athletes?
Kyle Borshoff: One significant advantage is the opportunity for our athletes to compete against teams they will face regularly, which elevates the stakes and excitement of each match. This can enhance team bonding, foster rivalries, and create an atmosphere that is electric for our wrestlers and supporters. It gives them something tangible to look forward to each season.
News Directory 3: Can you give us an overview of the upcoming schedule and key matches for Binghamton in the Independence Division?
Kyle Borshoff: Certainly! Our first match in the Independence Division is against LIU on December 15, which we’re very eager for. After that, we’ll have matchups against Hofstra, Franklin & Marshall, Drexel, Morgan State, and Sacred Heart throughout January and February. Hosting Hofstra on January 9 at 2 p.m. will be a particularly exciting event for us at the Events Center.
News Directory 3: With a dual meet schedule set to launch in 2025-26, how are you preparing your team for this transition?
Kyle Borshoff: Our focus is on building team cohesion and maintaining high levels of individual performance. The dual meet format is unique because it emphasizes head-to-head matchups, and we aim to capitalize on that. We’re preparing our athletes both physically and mentally, ensuring they understand the strategic components of dual meets to maximize their success when we make this shift.
News Directory 3: Lastly, how does it feel to compete at prestigious events like the Army West Point Black Knight Invitational and Cornell’s Big Red Invitational?
Kyle Borshoff: Competing at these prestigious tournaments offers invaluable experience for our wrestlers. It gives them the chance to face some of the best competition in the country, which is crucial for their development. We’re excited to see how our athletes rise to the challenge and grow from these experiences.
