January 22, 2026 David Thompson - Sports Editor Sports

Bishop Dyer⁣ Makes Surprise AEW Appearance – Former WWE Superstar Baron Corbin, now competing under the name Bishop Dyer,‌ made an‍ unexpected appearance on Wednesday, January⁢ 21, ahead⁣ of AEW⁤ dynamite in Orlando, Florida. Dyer worked an eight-man tag team dark match prior to the live broadcast, marking his first known involvement with AEW ‍as departing WWE ‌late last year.

As of this writing, there is⁣ no confirmation regarding what led to Dyer’s appearance or whether it signals a longer-term relationship with AEW. ⁣His involvement was not advertised in advance, and AEW has not commented publicly on ‍his status following the match. Still, his⁤ presence immediately sparked discussion given his name recognition and recent activity across⁤ multiple promotions.

In the‍ dark match,Dyer teamed with Better Together’s Hadar Horvitz and Ori Gold, along with Martin Stone. The team came up short in a loss against Billy Gunn, Austin Gunn, brady Booker, and ‌Elijah Drago. The match served‌ as a low-profile‌ but notable return to a major televised wrestling environment for Dyer, even though ⁤it did not air as part of‌ Dynamite.

Dyer ⁣has remained active on the self-reliant scene since his WWE departure and continues to expand his schedule ⁢in early 2026. He is confirmed to compete at the ROH x maple ⁤Leaf Pro Global Wars Canada event on March 27, followed by MLW’s Uprising event ‌the⁤ next ⁤night. His calendar ‌reflects‌ a steady presence across multiple promotions⁢ rather than⁢ exclusivity with any single company.

Currently, Dyer is ‍one-half of the ⁤reigning MLW Tag Team Champions alongside Donovan ⁢Dijak. Along with his tag team commitments, he has also been working several independent dates as a singles competitor, ⁢keeping his profile visible while ‌exploring different roles outside the WWE ⁢system.

Dyer’s WWE contract expired in November 2024, ending a⁤ run with ‍the company that dated back to ‍2012, when he first⁤ began his career under the WWE banner. During his time there, he captured the WWE United States Championship and the NXT Tag Team Championship, establishing himself as a long-tenured presence across multiple eras of the company.

Whether Dyer’s AEW appearance was a one-off or ‌the beginning of something⁢ more‍ remains⁤ to be seen.‌ For now, it stands as another notable step in⁢ his post-WWE journey as⁣ he continue
