Bitcoin dropped below $82,000 on Thursday, erasing earlier weekly gains as renewed selling pressure across global markets hit risk-sensitive assets. The world’s largest cryptocurrency fell as much as 3.6% to hover near $81,900 during early morning trading in New York. The price was also recorded at $81,851.75, marking a 3.11% decline, while prices stabilized around $82,785.80 after hitting near $85,000 overnight. Meanwhile, trading was at approximately $82,700 by early afternoon in Singapore.
Broader Tech Sell-Off And Middle East Tensions
The cryptocurrency downturn coincided with investors balancing mixed tech sector earnings against escalating Middle East tensions that pushed oil prices higher. Asian and European equities dropped alongside U.S. stock futures, while Brent crude climbed past $110 per barrel. The oil price surge hit five-month highs amid fears of imminent U.S. and Israeli actions against Iran, fueling persistent inflation concerns and higher borrowing costs that pressured the broader tech sector.
Altcoin Losses And Institutional ETF Inflows
Smaller digital assets also suffered declines, with Ethereum, Solana, and XRP falling between 3% and 4%. Ethereum fell to $2,405.46 and Ripple to $1.3266, while Ether was also reported down 0.3% to $2,432.48 alongside losses in Solana and Cardano. Despite the spot price retreat, institutional demand showed improvement through U.S. exchange-traded funds. U.S.-listed spot Bitcoin ETFs recorded net inflows of $1.1 billion since the start of the week, fully recovering the $909.6 million in net outflows seen over the previous two weeks.

Option Markets Show Hedging Demand As Analysts Weigh Rebound Potential
Option prices on the Deribit platform continued to signal investor preference for downside protection, with the largest open interest in Bitcoin put options expiring Friday concentrated at a $78,000 strike price. Caroline Mauron, co-founder of Orbit Markets, stated that falling equities dragged Bitcoin back into its recent trading range.
We expect to retest the $85,000 level in the coming days, but confidence in this direction will remain limited.
