Black Ferns Dominate Pool Play Unbeaten, Men’s Team Falls to Spain – Rugby World Cup Highlights
The Black Ferns Sevens excelled in pool play at the Dubai world series event. Despite missing key players like Portia Woodman-Wickliffe, Michaela Blyde, and Tyla King, they secured wins against Brazil (33-5), Japan (36-12), and Canada (38-5). Their performance was strong, especially against Canada, with Kelsey Teneti scoring two early tries and Katelyn Vahaakolo making her first international try in sevens.
In contrast, the New Zealand men faced challenges. They began with a win over the USA but suffered defeats to Spain (26-14) and Fiji (21-12). Despite these setbacks, they managed to qualify for the quarterfinals as one of the best third-placed teams and will compete against South Africa for a chance in the semifinals.
Other matches scheduled include Japan against Great Britain, Australia versus Argentina, Olympic champions France facing Fiji, and Spain meeting Great Britain.
