Donato Re-Signs, Blackhawks Bolster Offense

Chicago​ secured a‌ significant piece of its ‌future Wednesday, re-signing forward⁢ Ryan Donato to a four-year, ‍$16 million contract. Donato, who was⁣ nearing unrestricted ‍free agency, agreed to‌ remain⁤ with the Blackhawks after a ⁣career year.

Blackhawks‍ General Manager Kyle Davidson lauded Donato’s energy ​and competitiveness.He emphasized Donato’s⁣ crucial role in the team’s offense⁣ and expressed excitement about his continued contributions over the next four years. The ⁢team sees Donato’s role ⁤as vital to their ‌rebuild.

The 29-year-old⁤ Donato is coming off a season where he ‍tallied career-best‌ numbers: 31 goals and 31⁢ assists in ​80 games. Previously, he scored 16 goals with Seattle in 2021-22 ⁢and had 18 assists in⁤ his first​ Chicago season.

Contract​ discussions occurred before the trade ​deadline, but an agreement wasn’t reached at‌ that time. Chicago ‌ultimately retained Donato, and negotiations resumed after the season concluded.

The ‍new contract addresses a key need for Chicago as the team seeks to return to contention. Last season, the Blackhawks finished with a 25-46-11 record, placing them last in the Central Division and 31st overall‍ in‌ the NHL.

Donato, a native of Boston and ‌a Harvard alumnus, has ‍recorded 108 goals and 119 assists in 483 career games. he has also played⁤ for the Bruins,Wild,and Sharks. he initially joined the Blackhawks in 2023, signing‍ a ⁤two-year, $4 million deal.

“Ryan ‍brings energy and​ competes hard every ‍game which has been a huge asset ​to our team over⁤ the last​ two seasons,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson said.
