Blackrock Park Kiosk: A Sweet Restoration Story Brews in Dublin

Blackrock, Dublin – The aroma ⁢of freshly brewed coffee and the echoes of Victorian charm ‍are set too fill the air at Blackrock Park, as the meticulously restored kiosk at its main entrance prepares to open⁣ its ⁣doors as a coffee shop in the coming‍ months. This beloved landmark, dating back to the 1890s when it served as a cake⁢ and sweet shop, has undergone a meaningful transformation, breathing new life into a protected structure with a⁣ rich history.

Dún ‍Laoghaire Rathdown council spearheaded the restoration project, with the intention to “faithfully restore” the building to its former glory. The project, which commenced in July of last year ‍and concluded last month, has seen a total investment of €1.1 million. While the initial tender from contractor Bracegrade was €690,000 ‍(excluding VAT), ⁤a contingency of €150,000 ⁣was wisely approved, bringing the initial project cost to €840,000. An additional €200,000 was‍ later allocated ⁣to address the demolition of a⁢ disused⁤ public toilet block and the construction of a modern replacement near the⁤ tea rooms, along with some additional⁣ landscaping to enhance the surrounding area.

The kiosk, strategically positioned with stunning views⁢ over Blackrock Park and Dublin Bay,holds a special place in the hearts of locals. Established roughly 20 years before the kiosk’s construction, the park itself is a testament to⁤ Dublin’s enduring commitment to green spaces and community gathering⁢ places.

The ⁢Council⁣ has provisionally agreed to a contract with the operator of the popular Mister Magpie outlets, known for their locations ‍in Ballsbridge and Leeson St. The ⁤contracts ⁤are currently being ‍finalized, and the Council is working closely with the operator to ensure a seamless opening.

“We are working ⁢closely with the ⁤operator to ⁣ensure the Tearooms⁤ open to the public ⁣as soon as possible,” the council saeid in a statement.

The restored kiosk promises ⁣to be more ⁢than just a place to grab a coffee. It will be a vibrant hub, a place to⁤ connect with friends and neighbors, and a festivity⁤ of Blackrock’s heritage. As the ⁢community eagerly awaits the grand opening, the sweet scent of⁤ history and the promise of a perfect cup of coffee are already in the⁣ air.
