COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Richard Bland, the defending champion, will not participate in this week’s U.S. Senior Open at The Broadmoor. instead, the 52-year-old golfer is set to compete in the LIV Golf event in Dallas.
Bland announced on social media his commitment to LIV’s 14-event schedule. His goal is to finish in the top 24 to secure his spot on Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks team.
The U.S. Senior Open, a major championship on the senior golf tour, begins Thursday at The Broadmoor.the course has a rich history, hosting nine USGA championships, including Jack Nicklaus’ 1959 U.S. Amateur victory and Annika Sorenstam’s 1995 U.S.Women’s Open win.
A seasoned player on the DP World Tour, Bland made history in 2021 by winning the British masters at 48, becoming the tour’s oldest first-time winner. That same year, he held a share of the lead after two rounds at the U.S. Open at Torrey Pines before finishing in 50th place.
After being denied entry into the 2023 Senior Open due to fines owed to the European tour following his move to LIV Golf, Bland bounced back. His victory at the 2024 Senior PGA Championship earned him a spot in the Senior U.S. Open, where he defeated Hiroyuki Fujita in a playoff at Newport Country Club.
