Blast Claims Nine Lives, Injures Dozens
At least nine people were killed and 27 others injured on February 5, 2024, when a stockpile of confiscated explosives detonated at a police station in Nowgam, Indian Kashmir. The incident involved personnel handling the materials, according to Nalin Prabhat, Director general of Police for the federally administered region of Jammu and Kashmir.

Director General Prabhat stated that the explosion appears to have been accidental,occurring during forensic and chemical examinations of previously recovered explosive materials. He emphasized that there is currently no indication of militant involvement, discouraging further speculation about the cause. A police source reported the intensity of the blast scattered debris, including body parts, up to 200 meters from the police station.
