The South African men’s sevens team, the Blitzboks, secured a place in the Hong Kong Sevens quarter-finals with a dominant 38-0 victory over Argentina on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at Kai Tak Stadium in Hong Kong.

The win came after a shock 31-12 loss to Spain earlier in the tournament, which left the Blitzboks needing a significant result against Argentina to advance from Pool A. South Africa responded with a ruthless performance, scoring six tries and keeping a clean sheet to finish the pool stage with a points difference of +24.

Argentina were reduced to six men after a red card to Martiniano Arrieta, which the Blitzboks capitalised on fully. Selvyn Davids and Ryan Oosthuizen scored early tries to give South Africa a 12-0 lead, before Tristan Leyds added two tries and three conversions to star in the victory. Shilton van Wyk also crossed for a try in the second half as the Blitzboks extended their lead to 26-0 at half-time and ultimately secured the 38-0 win.

The result meant South Africa topped Pool A on points difference, ahead of Spain (+16) and Argentina (+7), all of whom finished with six log points. The Blitzboks will now face the second-best third-placed team in the quarter-finals, with the match scheduled for 12:28pm South African time.

Hong Kong marks the opening leg of the SVNS World Championship Series, followed by tournaments in Valladolid and Bordeaux. The Blitzboks have never won the Hong Kong Sevens title, and this victory keeps their hopes alive for a maiden crown in the tournament as they aim to build on their regular-season SVNS series success, which included four wins from six events and the overall title at New York’s Sports Illustrated Stadium.
