Blizzard Entertainment is contributing its cinematic expertise to the upcoming Fable reboot, specifically assisting Playground Games with the game’s cutscenes, as confirmed by Xbox Chief Content Officer Matt Booty during an appearance on the Official Xbox Podcast.
Booty revealed that the award-winning Blizzard Cinematics team is helping out on Fable, noting that this collaboration is part of a broader effort to share expertise across Microsoft’s internal development studios. He highlighted other examples, including The Coalition’s Unreal Engine work benefiting studios like inXile on Clockwork Revolution, Compulsion Games using Activision’s motion capture studio and Rare’s multiplayer experience supporting Double Fine on the pottery game Kiln.
The involvement of Blizzard’s cinematic team is particularly notable given the developer’s long-standing reputation for high-quality cutscenes. Booty’s comments suggest that Xbox aims for Fable to achieve cutscene quality comparable to that seen in Blizzard titles such as Diablo IV, whose recent Lord of Hatred animations have been widely praised.
This collaboration underscores Microsoft’s strategy of leveraging synergies between its owned studios and intellectual properties. By integrating Blizzard’s cinematic strengths into Fable’s development, Xbox seeks to enhance the narrative presentation of the rebooted RPG, which is being developed by Playground Games for release on Xbox Series X|S and PC.
