The company directed users on Wednesday to either disable the service or configure “split tunneling” to regain access, a message appearing in multiple languages including English, Dutch, and French.

The incident highlights a growing tension between VPN services and the security measures employed by websites and applications. While VPNs are popular tools for enhancing online privacy by encrypting internet traffic and masking IP addresses, they can inadvertently interfere with systems designed to identify and block malicious bot activity. This represents particularly relevant as VPN usage continues to rise, and online platforms become more sophisticated in their efforts to protect against automated attacks.
