updated June 12, 2025
The Medical care blog, in collaboration with the American Public Health Association’s Medical Care Section, is hosting a blogging contest to highlight stories from the front lines of public health. The contest seeks to amplify voices and address challenges within the public health sector.
Submissions are welcome from anyone with a relevant public health story. The blog encourages entries addressing current or ongoing healthcare delivery and public health issues. This includes reactions to health policy developments, funding or policy changes, practitioner and researcher interviews, and commentaries from various health professionals.
Entries should be between 800 and 1,500 words. The deadline for submissions is Aug. 1, 2025. Submit posts via the contact form on The Medical Care Blog website.
A panel of reviewers from the Medical Care Section will judge the entries. Two outstanding submissions will receive an “Outstanding Blog Post” award and a $100 prize. All entries will be considered for publication on the blog, with the editors making the final decision. Authors retain copyright and can republish their work elsewhere, provided they link back to the original post.
The blog gives special consideration to posts highlighting findings published in the journal Medical Care. Writers should also consider the blog’s 2025 theme: Political Determinants of Health.
