Ryan Jarman, frontman of The Cribs, has opened up about a particularly chaotic moment from the band’s early days – a NME Awards incident involving a full-page spread, a lot of blood, and a subsequent ban for his then-partner, Kate Nash. The candid discussion sheds light on the band’s wilder past while also highlighting their continued presence on the UK music scene.
A Bloody Good Time (and a Subsequent Ban)
In a recent interview,Jarman recounted a memorable, and messy, experience surrounding an NME Awards appearance. “It was like a full page spread, good work and I’m just like blood everywhere and feeling depressed,” he explained, painting a vivid – and unsettling – picture. He followed up with a somewhat bewildered, “I guess it was a good thing, you no what I mean?”
The incident also led to an unexpected consequence for kate Nash, who dated Jarman from 2007 to 2012. Nash revealed she was banned from attending future NME Awards following their breakup.
“I always thought it was funny that I got banned from going to the NMEs (Awards) when me and Ryan broke up as he was getting an award and I was told I couldn’t go,” she said. “I was like,’Me? Based on what reputation? What am I gonna do that’s gonna be so crazy?’ I’m like,’He’s literally done that!'”
it’s a testament to the band’s early energy – and Jarman’s penchant for the dramatic – that such an event became a lasting anecdote.
The Cribs: From Debut Albums to Reunion Shows
Despite the occasional chaos,The Cribs have maintained a dedicated following and a consistent presence in the indie rock landscape. This year has been particularly busy for the band, showcasing their enduring appeal and collaborative spirit.
In May, The Cribs joined Kaiser Chiefs and Razorlight for a special 20th-anniversary concert. The event saw each band perform their debut albums in their entirety, offering fans a nostalgic trip back to the early 2000s indie boom. It was a celebration of a pivotal era in British music, and The Cribs were a key part of it.

Looking ahead,The Cribs are set to support The Maccabees at their highly anticipated all Points East 2025 headline show later this month. This reunion performance is generating significant buzz, and The Cribs’ involvement adds another layer of excitement for fans.
