Escalating Violence in Lebanon: Death Toll Rises Amid Israeli Airstrikes

Lebanon’s Health Minister has reported a significant increase in the number of deaths and injuries in the country due to major Israeli raids.

In the past 24 hours, Israeli airstrikes have resulted in the loss of 51 lives and injured over 220 people in Lebanon. The United Nations has reported that approximately 90,000 more people have been displaced from Lebanon this week, bringing the total number of displaced individuals to over 90,530.

Since September 24, Israel has expanded its attack areas in Lebanon, targeting various locations including the beach resort town of Jiyyeh, just south of Beirut, as well as Maaysrah, Bint Jbeil, Tebnin, and Ain Qana.

Hezbollah has also reported firing rockets at Israel, further escalating the violence in the region. The United Nations and Middle Eastern countries have expressed concern over the situation, with the United Nations Security Council set to meet to discuss the regional situation.

The United States has expressed concern over reports of a Hezbollah missile attack on Israel’s intelligence agency, but remains committed to finding a diplomatic solution to reduce tensions on the Lebanon-Israel border.

According to associate professor Isa Blumi of Stockholm University, the escalating situation at the Israel-Lebanon border could lead to a ground military operation by Israeli special forces into southern Lebanon. Mr. Blumi attributes the current developments to Tel Aviv’s desire to control water resources and agricultural land in southern Lebanon.

From the Gaza Strip, the West Bank, the Golan Heights, and southern Lebanon, which has water resources and fertile agricultural land.”

To date, the attacks have resulted in the loss of at least 650 lives and injured over 2,000 people in Lebanon. Many countries have advised their citizens to exercise caution when traveling to the area or to take necessary safety measures.

In response to the crisis, Greece has announced plans to call on the European Union to provide medical treatment for injured Lebanese people, as hospitals in the country become increasingly overwhelmed.
