The Lebanese Ministry of Health announced on September 21 that the number of victims killed in airstrikes targeted by Israel in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon, has increased to 37.
According to Lebanon’s health minister, the dead included civilians, including three children aged 4, 6, and 10, and seven women. “23 people are still missing, and search and rescue operations are underway in the rubble of the building which has collapsed,” said the Lebanese health minister.
The health minister added that the recent airstrikes have resulted in a significant loss of life, with around 70 people killed since September 17. “This is a clear violation of international law, and we strongly condemn Israel’s actions.”
The Israeli army carried out a targeted air strike on the southern outskirts of Beirut, known as the stronghold of the armed pro-Iranian political faction, Hezbollah. The airstrikes continued on September 22, targeting Hezbollah facilities in southern and eastern Lebanon.
Hezbollah announced that 16 of its commanders, including Special Operations Forces Commander Ibrahim Aqil, had been killed in the airstrikes. In response, Hezbollah fired rockets at two military facilities in northern Israel.
In a separate incident, the Gaza Strip Ministry of Health announced that at least 22 people were killed when the Israeli army attacked the Al-Zaytoon School, which was being used as a shelter in Gaza City, northern Gaza Strip.
