Malian Armed Forces Report Casualties in Bamako Attack
The General Staff of the Malian Armed Forces has confirmed that an attack in the capital, Bamako, resulted in a number of fatalities among the gendarme ranks.
According to a statement from the authority, the attack, described as “cowardly and treacherous,” caused several deaths among the gendarme students and targeted facilities and equipment in the airport area.
Local television broadcast footage of the arrest of 20 suspects, who were handcuffed and blindfolded, following the attack. The “Islam and Muslim Support Group,” a militant organization linked to Al-Qaeda, has claimed responsibility for the attack.
The Malian army has announced that they have regained control of the situation in Bamako, following the attack.
