The Israeli army announced on the 8th local time that three Israeli civilians were killed by gunfire in the border area between the West Bank of Palestine and Jordan.
The Israeli army reported that a ‘terrorist’ got out of a truck at the intersection of the Allenby Bridge across the Jordan River and shot the victims with a pistol. The three people killed were all civilians, and the gunman was also killed.
According to the Times of Israel, a 39-year-old truck driver of Jordanian nationality shot a worker at the Allenby Bridge border checkpoint. The victims were all men in their 60s who lived in West Bank settlements.
Following the incident, Israel and Jordan closed the Allenby Bridge, and Israel closed two additional checkpoints connecting its territory with Jordan.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu condemned the attack, saying, “A cowardly terrorist brutally murdered three of our citizens.” He added, “We are surrounded by a murderous ideology led by Iran’s ‘Axis of Evil.'”
In response, Hamas stated, “We affirm the Arab rejection of Israeli crimes in Palestine and Jordan.”
The Israeli military has been conducting military operations in the West Bank, aiming to destroy the base of terrorism since the end of last month. Tensions have risen in the region, particularly after an American woman in her 20s was shot and killed by the Israeli army during a protest on the 6th.
President Erdogan of Türkiye called for an ‘anti-Israel alliance’ on the 7th, saying, “The only way to stop Israel’s arrogance, theft, and terrorism is an alliance of Islamic countries.”
