Blowing the Whistle Just Got Safer: Chiba Prefecture Bar Association Offers Lifeline with Free Consultations
Protecting Whistleblowers: Chiba Prefecture Bar Association Offers Free Telephone Consultation
On September 26th, the Chiba Prefecture Bar Association held a free telephone consultation session in Chiba City for individuals considering reporting matters such as fraud within an organization.
The consultation session, organized by the Prefectural Bar Association’s Public Interest Reporting Support Committee, aimed to inform the public about the importance of public interest reporting and provide guidance on the process.
Eight lawyers participated in the session, offering advice and guidance to those considering whistleblowing. They provided information on how to report concerns to the appropriate whistleblower desk and offered tips on avoiding unfavorable treatment.
As of 7 p.m. on September 26th, the prefectural bar association had received 10 inquiries regarding workplace matters, some of which were considered public interest reports.
Unfortunately, there have been cases where whistleblowers have faced disadvantageous treatment, such as those in Hyogo Prefecture and Kagoshima Prefectural Police. The prefectural bar association is urging individuals to take advantage of their consultation desk to protect themselves.
Kazuto Iwahashi, Chairman of the Prefectural Bar Association Public Interest Whistleblower Support Committee and Attorney-at-Law, emphasized the importance of seeking legal advice before filing a complaint. “Many people have had the courage to blow the whistle, only to face disadvantageous treatment afterwards. If you’re considering filing a complaint, please take advantage of the legal advice provided by the Chiba Prefecture Bar Association.”
