Toronto Blue Jays players George Springer and Addison Barger are making progress in their recovery from injuries, with both receiving positive updates ahead of the team’s series against the Los Angeles Angels.
George Springer, who has missed the first seven games of the 2026 season due to a broken toe, is now throwing for the first time since the injury. Blue Jays manager John Schneider confirmed that Springer will also engage in dynamic warm-up and mobility exercises, with the possibility of running later in the week. Schneider added that it would be ideal if Springer could return to action by Friday.
Addison Barger is also advancing in his rehabilitation, having begun running drills at the team’s Player Development Complex in Dunedin. Schneider noted that Barger has been hitting, throwing, and fielding during his recovery, stating that the infielder appears to be making steady progress.
Schneider also provided updates on other injured players, noting that Yimi Garcia will throw live to hitters for the first time on Wednesday, while Trey Yesavage and Jose Berrios are scheduled for rehab games this week. Shane Bieber is set for another bullpen session on Tuesday, and Ricky Tiedemann, who was shut down in late February with elbow soreness, has resumed throwing bullpens at the PDC in Dunedin.
The Blue Jays have struggled early in the 2026 season, posting an 8-13 record through their first 21 games, a performance partly attributed to the wave of injuries affecting the roster. The potential return of Springer and Barger could provide a much-needed boost to the team’s lineup as they look to turn their season around.
