Blue Jays Designate Nick Raposo for Assignment
Blue Jays Clear Roster Space for García, Designate Raposo for Assignment
The Toronto Blue Jays have officially inked right-hander Yimi García to a contract, bolstering their bullpen for the upcoming season. To make room on the 40-man roster, the team designated catcher Nick Raposo for assignment.
Raposo, 27, joined the Blue jays institution just a few months ago after being designated for assignment by the St. Louis Cardinals. The Cardinals had acquired Erick Fedde and Tommy Pham at the trade deadline, leading to Raposo’s departure.
The backstop briefly held a spot on the Cardinals’ major league roster in June when both Willson Contreras and Iván Herrera were sidelined with injuries. The Blue Jays claimed Raposo off waivers, adding depth behind the plate after trading Danny Jansen to the boston Red Sox.
While Raposo has yet to make his major league debut, he has shown promise in the minors, posting a .241/.321/.387 slash line across 219 games over the past four years.
The Blue Jays now have a week to either trade Raposo or pass him through waivers. If he clears waivers, he could be outrighted to Triple-A Buffalo, providing organizational depth.
With Raposo’s departure, the Blue Jays’ 40-man roster now features just two catchers: Alejandro Kirk and Tyler Heineman. While Heineman is out of options, the team could explore adding another catcher this offseason, potentially through a minor league deal with a veteran backstop.
