The Edmonton Oilers played their game with the Toronto Blue Jays’ decisive Game 7 of the 2025 World Series playing on the arena’s scoreboard through the first two periods. The Blue Jays ultimately lost the game, a result that resonated with mcdavid, a known fan of the team.
“That was realy, really strange,” mcdavid said, according to reporting by NHL.com. “Obviously we’re all on the Jays’ bandwagon and everybody is wanting them to win and it’s so disappointing obviously, but it was strange to have it on during the game. Listening to the crowd, it was distracting for sure, I’m glad they shut it off for the third.”
Oilers Secure Overtime Victory
despite the distraction, McDavid focused on his performance on the ice, contributing three assists in the Oilers’ win. Defenseman Evan Bouchard scored the game-winning goal at 2:43 of overtime.
“I found myself watching the Jays game sitting on the bench,” McDavid admitted. “And listening to the crowd while I’m on the ice, (wondering) what just happened?”
