Blue jays Reinforce Outfield with Varsho’s Return, Springer Lands on Concussion IL
The toronto Blue Jays are set to make notable adjustments to their outfield as daulton Varsho is reinstated from the injured list, while George Springer has been placed on the seven-day concussion IL. This roster shuffle comes as the team prepares for their series against the Kansas City Royals.
Varsho Back in Action, Springer Sidelined
daulton Varsho, who has been sidelined as May 31 with a grade-1 left hamstring strain, has been cleared to return. The 29-year-old outfielder will start in center field and bat seventh in Friday’s matchup against the Royals. At the time of his injury, Varsho was leading the Blue Jays with eight home runs. His return is a welcome boost, especially considering his reputation for stellar defense. In the previous two seasons, Varsho led Major League Baseball with 57 defensive runs saved, providing much-needed stability for the Blue Jays, particularly behind starting pitcher Kevin Gausman.
In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Paxton Schultz has been optioned to triple-A Buffalo.
Meanwhile, George Springer has been placed on the seven-day concussion injured list, retroactive to july 29. The veteran outfielder sustained the concussion on July 29 after being hit in the helmet by a fastball from Baltimore Orioles reliever Kade Strowd. The 35-year-old former World Series champion has been a key offensive contributor for the Blue Jays this season, leading the team with 18 home runs and an impressive .889 OPS.
Looking Ahead: Blue Jays vs. Royals
The Blue Jays will look to capitalize on Varsho’s return and strong defensive presence as they face the Kansas City Royals. Fans can catch all the action on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+ starting at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT.
