At Auto China 2026 in Beijing, the BMW Group unveiled three world premieres centered on its Neue Klasse electric vehicle architecture: the BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase, the BMW i3 Long Wheelbase, and the new BMW 7 Series featuring Neue Klasse technologies for the first time.
The BMW Group’s exhibition stand at the event was dedicated entirely to the Neue Klasse, marking what BMW describes as a major leap in technology, driving experience, and design. Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG, stated that the introductions represent an important milestone in the company’s biggest future project.
The new BMW iX3 Long Wheelbase, developed specifically for the Chinese market, is built in Shenyang and offers over 900 km of CLTC range with 400 kW peak DC charging capability, adding more than 400 km of range in approximately ten minutes. It is the first long-wheelbase Neue Klasse SUV.
The BMW i3 Long Wheelbase also made its world premiere at the show, forming part of BMW’s localized electric vehicle strategy for China. Both the iX3 and i3 Long Wheelbase models are tailored to meet regional demand for extended range and fast charging.
The new BMW 7 Series debuted with Neue Klasse technologies integrated into its design and systems, representing the first application of the architecture in BMW’s flagship sedan line. This marks the scaling of Neue Klasse technology clusters and design language across BMW’s broader portfolio.
BMW Group presented a total of 16 models at Auto China 2026 across its BMW, MINI, and BMW Motorrad brands, including four global premieres and eight China-specific debuts. The event ran from April 24 through May 3, 2026, with press previews held on April 22.
The company emphasized that its digital experience and driver assistance systems were developed specifically for the Chinese market, alongside the presentation of emotional MINI concept cars as part of its broader showcase.
