Jambi Deploys Five Helicopters to Combat Escalating Forest and Land Fires
Jambi, Indonesia - In a significant escalation of efforts to combat the growing threat of forest and land fires (Karhutla) in Jambi Province, the national Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and the Indonesian National police (Polri) Headquarters have jointly deployed five helicopters. These aerial assets are crucial for supporting the dedicated Forest and Land Fire Task Force on the ground.
Aerial Reinforcements Arrive to Tackle Blaze
Bachyuni Deliansyah, Head of the Jambi Provincial Disaster management Agency, confirmed the deployment on Sunday, stating, “Five helicopters from BNPB and Polri Headquarters have been deployed to Jambi for patrols and aerial spraying of forest and land fires.” This strategic deployment underscores the severity of the current fire situation and the commitment to employing advanced resources for containment.
A Closer Look at the Aerial Fleet
The deployed fleet comprises a mix of specialized aircraft. “The assistance consists of two water-bombing helicopters and two helicopters from BNPB. One helicopter from Polri Headquarters, while the other from BNPB, is currently en route to jambi,” explained Deliansyah. These five helicopters are strategically positioned at Sultan Thaha Airport in Jambi,ready for immediate deployment. Their primary mission involves conducting vital aerial patrols and monitoring, particularly in identifying fire hotspots that are inaccessible by land-based firefighting teams.
Critical Firefighting Operations Underway in muaro Jambi
The situation remains critical in the Peatland Area of Gambut Jaya Village, Sungai Gelam Sub-District, Muaro Jambi District, which has been severely affected by the fires.Approximately 250 hectares of land have already been consumed by the blaze in this specific area.
Multi-Agency Task Force Mobilized
A robust multi-agency Forest and Land Fire Task force is actively engaged in firefighting operations. This dedicated team includes members from Manggala Agni, the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI), the Indonesian National Police (Polri), the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), the Fire Awareness community (MPA), and crucially, the local surrounding community. Their combined efforts are essential for controlling and extinguishing the fires.
Investigation into Fire Causes Intensifies
Jambi Regional police Chief Inspector General krisno H Siregar, who personally inspected the fire in Gambut Jaya Village on Saturday, July 26, emphasized the ongoing investigation into the origins of the blaze. “The Jambi Regional Police are still investigating the cause of the fire,” he stated.
Previous Suspects named in Forest Fire Case
This investigation follows previous actions by the Jambi Regional Police, who have already named two suspects in connection with the burning of a Production forest (HP) area in Peninjauan Village, Muaro Sebo Sub-district, Batanghari District. The authorities are committed to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for these destructive acts.
