Washington, D.C. – Boar’s Head Provisions Co.has issued a major expansion of its recall of deli meat products due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes,the U.S.Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced today. This follows an initial recall on July 26, 2024.

The recall now encompasses a wide range of ready-to-eat meat and poultry items sold under the Boar’s Head brand, including popular choices like sliced ham, turkey breast, and roast beef.

What is Listeria and Why Should You Care?

Listeria monocytogenes is a bacterium that can cause a serious infection called listeriosis. This infection can be particularly perilous for vulnerable populations, including young children, pregnant women, older adults, and individuals with weakened immune systems.

Symptoms of listeriosis can include fever, muscle aches, headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions. in severe cases, it can lead to hospitalization and even death.

Boar’s Head is urging consumers who have purchased any of the recalled products to discard them instantly or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund.
