Bob Weir Tribute Concert: Dylan, Anastasio, Hornsby & More
Bob Weir, a founding member of the Grateful Dead, has died, his bandmate Don Was announced. He was 78. Was shared on Instagram that Weir ”taught us how too approach music with fearlessness and unbridled soul – pushing us beyond what we thought was musically possible.”
Weir’s impact extended beyond the Grateful Dead’s devoted fanbase. Bruce Hornsby, who toured with the band in the late 1980s and early 1990s, remembered weir as a warm and witty presence.
“Always a warm, jovial presence, but with a mischievous look in his eye, he was ready with banter, a quip, a wise-guy crack or bon mot most all the time,” Hornsby wrote on Facebook. “I love you, Bob, and will always fondly remember our many moments, so frequently enough transcendent, throwing chords and notes around in space, through the air, together.”
Andy Cohen, a host on Bravo and a longtime Deadhead, affectionately called Weir “That Guy” in a post on Instagram.
Weir’s death marks the loss of a significant figure in american music, remembered for his innovative guitar playing and integral role in shaping the psychedelic rock scene.
