Eugene Mirman, the comedian and voice actor known for portraying Gene Belcher in Bob’s Burgers, has issued a public statement following a serious car accident in New Hampshire.

The incident occurred on March 31, 2026, during the early afternoon on the F.E. Everett Turnpike. According to the New Hampshire State Police, Mirman was traveling northbound when he crashed into the Bedford Toll Plaza.

Mirman’s vehicle, a 2026 Lucid Gravity electric car, erupted into flames immediately after the collision. The Bedford Toll Plaza is described by NBC Boston as a location notorious for car accidents.

Rescue Operation

A veteran New Hampshire State Trooper, who was assigned to the security detail of Governor Kelly Ayotte, encountered the crash while units were responding. The trooper observed that the vehicle was actively on fire and that the driver was still trapped inside.

The trooper pulled Mirman from the burning vehicle through a window to bring him to safety. Governor Ayotte and other witnesses at the scene provided assistance to the trooper during the rescue operation.

Emergency dispatch audio obtained by TMZ described the scene as a motor vehicle that struck the toll is on fire with entrapment. The audio further revealed that once Mirman was removed from the wreckage and placed in the back of a truck, he was described by first responders as incoherent.

One bystander who assisted at the scene also required medical treatment for a cut hand.

Medical Status and Recovery

Mirman was transported by ambulance to a local hospital to be treated for serious injuries. During a press conference on March 31, New Hampshire State Police Col. Mark Hall stated that the actor’s injuries were serious but non-life threatening.

On April 1, 2026, Mirman’s agent released a statement to USA TODAY confirming that the actor was recovering and grateful to be on the mend. The agent requested privacy for Mirman and his family during the recovery process.

On April 3, 2026, Mirman shared a statement via Instagram thanking the individuals who intervened during the crash and the medical staff who treated him.

I am extraordinarily thankful to the heroic people that pulled me from the car and to the warm, kind and talented staff at the hospital that cared for me and got me on the mend! I am thankful beyond words to be here and doing relatively alright, all things considered.

In the same post, Mirman explained that he had not been online frequently because he did not have his phone, jokingly stating, I do not recommend my method of decreasing screen-time.
