Boca Juniors’ Costa: U.S. Visa Granted for Club World Cup
Costa Gets US Visa for club World Cup Role after Initial Denial
updated June 14, 2025
Argentine club Boca Juniors confirmed Friday that defender Ayrton Costa will participate in the Club World Cup in the United states. This follows a reversal by U.S. immigration officials who initially rejected his visa application. Costa’s role in the tournament was uncertain until the decision changed.
A club spokesperson stated that “Ayrton Costa has been granted a 26-day special visa,” clearing the way for his participation.
The visa application faced scrutiny due to a 2018 criminal complaint in Argentina involving an aggravated robbery. Costa avoided trial in 2023 by accepting a probationary sentence. U.S. officials initially steadfast that he could not enter the country while still serving that sentence. The U.S. embassy in Argentina declined to comment on individual visa cases.
Boca Juniors will begin the tournament in Miami on Monday against Portuguese side Benfica. Costa’s Club World Cup role is now secured, bolstering the team’s lineup.
What’s next
Costa is expected to join the team in Miami ahead of Monday’s match, ready to fulfill his role on the field.
