Bodies Discovered in Vehicle at Miriam Hospital in Providence
Providence police are investigating the discovery of two bodies found inside a car at Miriam Hospital on Wednesday evening, . The circumstances surrounding the deaths are currently unclear, and authorities have launched a full investigation.
Police responded to the hospital parking lot after receiving a report of the incident. Upon arrival, officers discovered the two individuals deceased within the vehicle. The scene was immediately secured, and the medical examiner was called to the location.
“It was unclear how long the bodies were in the vehicle,” stated Police Chief Oscar Perez, according to reporting from WJAR. The police investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased pending notification of next of kin.
The discovery prompted a significant police presence at Miriam Hospital, with police tape cordoning off a section of the parking lot. NBC 10 News crews at the scene reported observing the medical examiner responding to the incident.
The incident comes amidst other ongoing investigations in the Providence area. Just two days prior, on , city officials released bodycam footage and incident reports related to the mass shooting that occurred on the campus of Brown University in December. That shooting resulted in two student fatalities and nine injuries. The release of the Brown University shooting materials followed public records requests, according to WCVB.
The Providence Police Union President noted that the released Brown University footage did not capture all of the actions taken by officers during the response, specifically highlighting the “life saving steps some officers took that afternoon.”
Separately, the FBI is currently conducting a search in a desert terrain for clues related to the disappearance of Nancy Guthrie. Agents were seen knocking on doors and searching the area near Guthrie’s home on Wednesday, .
Other recent news in the Providence area includes the opening of Echo Village one year ago and a new lawsuit filed against real estate broker Kyle Seyboth and his associates by a Providence couple. Seyboth’s lawyer has dismissed the allegations as “lies.” A dispute over the use of lasers to counter cartel drones also led to a temporary airspace closure, according to reports.
Authorities have not indicated whether the deaths at Miriam Hospital are connected to any of these other ongoing investigations. The focus remains on determining the cause and circumstances surrounding the deaths, and a thorough investigation is underway.
