Bodo/Glimt vs Inter Milan: Champions League Clash & Form Guide

Inter Milan Face Uphill Battle Against Bodo/Glimt in Champions League Playoff

– San Siro will host a crucial second leg clash between Inter Milan and Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Champions League knockout playoff stage. Inter, despite being Serie A leaders, suffered a surprising 3-1 defeat in the first leg in Norway and now face a significant challenge to advance to the next round.

The first leg result in Bodo/Glimt’s home stadium was a major upset, with the Norwegian side capitalizing on their home advantage and a synthetic pitch to overcome the Champions League runners-up. Inter Milan were seeking a seventh straight win in all competitions, but fell behind early when Sondre Brunstad Fet scored in the 20th minute. While Pio Esposito equalized for Inter ten minutes later, Bodo/Glimt quickly regained the lead and extended their advantage with goals from Jens Petter Hauge and Kasper Høgh.

Bodo/Glimt’s recent form has been remarkable. Having concluded their domestic league season in November, the club has exclusively played Champions League matches for the past three months, achieving impressive results against high-profile opponents. In that period, they have secured four victories – including wins against Manchester City and Atlético Madrid – along with one draw and a single defeat.

Inter, however, are enjoying a dominant run in Serie A, currently ten points clear at the summit with eight consecutive league wins. Cristian Chivu, in his debut season as Inter manager, is on course to win the Scudetto. Despite their domestic success, Inter’s Champions League form has been less consistent, with two defeats in their last three matches in the competition, including the first leg loss to Bodo/Glimt.

The upcoming match at San Siro is therefore vital for Inter. According to reports, the club will be determined to overturn the first-leg deficit and secure a place in the next stage of the Champions League. Inter have a strong record at home, having won their last three home matches across all competitions by an aggregate score of 11-4.

Bodo/Glimt are on the verge of making history as well. They became the first Norwegian side to defeat Italian opposition in a major European competition since 1996. They are now aiming to become the first Norwegian team to progress from a knockout stage tie in the Champions League since Lillestrom in the 1987/88 season.

Jens Petter Hauge, who previously had a brief spell with AC Milan, played a key role in the first leg victory, celebrating his goal with enthusiasm. After scoring, Hauge expressed his joy, stating, “I feel amazing, just thankful to play with this team. I’m happy that I could help the team by making assists and scoring a goal. I play in a good team, so that’s nice.”

The match is set to be played in front of a capacity crowd at the 8,000-seat Aspmyra Stadion, creating a fervent atmosphere for the Norwegian side. However, the return leg at San Siro presents a different challenge, with Inter eager to avenge their defeat and utilize their home advantage.

Inter bounced back from their defeat in Norway with a 2-0 win at Lecce last weekend, demonstrating their resilience and determination to compete on multiple fronts. The Nerazzurri will need to replicate that form and deliver a commanding performance at San Siro to overcome the 3-1 first-leg deficit and keep their Champions League hopes alive.
