Boeing, the American aircraft manufacturer, announced it will compensate workers who were placed on temporary leave during the recent strike. Despite this gesture, the company’s plans to reduce its workforce by 10% remain in effect. CEO Kelly Ortberg made these announcements.
During the strike, Boeing temporarily furloughed thousands of employees. Following this, the company revealed plans to eliminate 17,000 jobs, as reported by Reuters.
“Your sacrifice made a difference and helped the company navigate this challenging period,” said Ortberg. “We want to express our gratitude for your support by returning your lost wages if you were on furlough.”
However, job losses will continue. A spokesperson for the Society of Professional Aerospace Engineers, which represents Boeing engineers, stated that a 60-day notice of job reductions will be issued to its members on November 15.
“These structural changes are essential for our competitiveness and will enable us to deliver greater value to our customers in the long run,” Ortberg explained.
