La Paz, Bolivia — The Bolivian national team is set to begin preparations Sunday for crucial 2026 World Cup qualifiers, but will be without midfielder Ramiro Vaca. Vaca, known for his strong performances for both his club and country, is suspended by CONMEBOL following a positive test in a Copa Libertadores match.
The team, currently eighth in the South American qualifying table with 14 points, will visit Venezuela on June 4 and host Chile on June 9. The World Cup 2026 is a major goal for the nation.
Coach Oscar Villegas named 25 players to the squad,including the return of goalkeeper Carlos Lampe,who has recovered from an injury. Fourteen players on the roster play for clubs outside of Bolivia. The South American qualifiers are fiercely contested.
