National Cancer Treatment Localization Effort
Mohammed Al-Oweib, Director of the Planning Department at the Therapeutic Services Support and Advancement Agency, announced an agreement to initiate the first phase of a bone marrow transplant project. The project will be based at the National Cancer Institute in Misrata, Libya, as part of a broader national plan to localize cancer treatment within the country.

Collaboration and International Partnerships
A coordination meeting, held at the Therapeutic Services Support and development Agency headquarters, brought together the National Anti-Cancer Authority and the Emergency Medicine and support Center. Discussions focused on enhancing cooperation between these national institutions regarding major health issues, notably the localization of cancer treatment and bone marrow transplantation.
The agreement involves collaboration with italy’s Gaslini Hospital for the training and qualification of Libyan medical personnel. Technical support will also be provided by the World Health Institution and the Eni oil company,as part of international partnership programs designed to transfer expertise and strengthen local capabilities.
Expanding Complex Surgeries and Healthcare System Rebuilding
Al-Oweib also noted that the meeting addressed plans to expand the localization of complex surgeries,including neurosurgery. This initiative is part of a thorough vision to rebuild Libya’s healthcare system, aiming to reduce the need for citizens to seek treatment abroad and improve the overall efficiency of medical services.
