Bonocorelegge: Memories & Customs with Gaetano Basile
Gaetano Basile to Discuss vanishing Sicily at Bonocorelegge#2
PALERMO, Sicily – Author Gaetano Basile will explore a Sicily fading from memory at the Bonocorelegge#2 literary review. The event, curated by Lia Vicari and Coopculture, will be held Wednesday, May 7, at 5:30 p.m. in Palazzo Bonocore, located in Piazza Pretoria, Palermo.
Basile’s discussion will center on his book, “memories, stories and customs of a Sicily that no longer exists” (Kalós editions). He will be joined by lawyer Lino Buscemi.
The journalist, narrator, and writer will delve into Sicilian traditions, customs, and anecdotes that intertwine with the history of a changing island. His work presents these narratives as “cunti,” tales unbound by strict historical accounts, offering a glimpse into lived experiences, narrated by those who lived them, or perhaps imagined them.
From childhood memories of “lost lands” to reflections on recent deaths, from culinary traditions to travel recollections, from Sicilian card games to encounters with American soldiers, basile’s stories encompass a wide range of experiences. He also touches on serenades of the past and chocolate kisses.
Admission is free, subject to available seating.
