Shopee Launches “Shopee Enables SMEs” Initiative to Empower Vietnamese Businesses
Shopee Company Limited has partnered with the Vietnam E-commerce Association (VECOM) to launch “Shopee Enables SMEs”, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative aimed at supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Vietnam.
The program seeks to attract 100,000 SMEs nationwide, providing them with the necessary skills and knowledge to develop their e-commerce capabilities and transform their businesses through technology.
Shopee has collaborated with the Vietnamese government to offer e-commerce skills training to SMEs, reaching nearly 10,000 sellers last year through training workshops across the country. Additionally, Shopee’s Local Seller Support Program has been expanded through the “Enabling Vietnam” initiative, supporting over 1,000 local manufacturers in improving their logistics and distribution capabilities and increasing their product presence in both domestic and export markets.
Currently, over 90% of products on Shopee are supplied and sold by Vietnamese businesses. Furthermore, more than 350,000 SMEs and over 1,000 Vietnamese brands have been supported in developing the ASEAN market through Shopee’s “Global Selling” program, helping to reduce the difficulties and costs incurred when bringing products to the global market through e-commerce applications.
According to the Vietnam E-commerce Index Report 2024 published by VECOM, Vietnam’s e-commerce sector continues to grow strongly, with a growth rate of over 25% and a scale of over 25 billion USD. However, most of the market is still concentrated in two economic centers, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, leaving many small and medium enterprises, business households, and cooperatives across the country without access to effective e-commerce solutions.
Mr. Bui Trung Kien, Vice President of VECOM, emphasized the importance of supporting SMEs in accessing and applying e-commerce effectively. To address this, VECOM and Shopee have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly implement the “Shopee Supports Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises” initiative.
Through this initiative, Shopee and VECOM will coordinate to train SMEs in e-commerce applications and digital marketing tools across 63 provinces and cities in Vietnam. The program aims to promote widespread application and development of e-commerce in businesses and communities, narrowing the development gap between major cities and localities in terms of e-commerce development.
The first training course, “Shopee Supports Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises”, was launched in Hanoi, providing over 200 businesses and 100 students with essential knowledge and skills in e-commerce, including:
- Basic knowledge of e-commerce
- Using digital marketing channels, including livestream, to engage with customers and increase brand awareness
- Analyzing and optimizing sales performance
- Revenue growth through exports
By empowering SMEs with the necessary skills and knowledge, Shopee and VECOM aim to support the growth and development of Vietnam’s e-commerce sector, promoting economic development and reducing the digital divide between urban and rural areas.
