Romania‘s Schengen Access: A Step Away from ⁤Land Border Controls

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu announced on Thursday that Romania is one step away from land border controls, paving the⁢ way for the country’s accession to‌ the Schengen Area.

According to the Prime Minister, the decision will be made by the JAI Council on December​ 13, following the COREPER‍ vote. The implementation process is expected to‍ take⁣ three months, with the new regulations likely to come into effect during the Easter holidays.

I believe it will be COREPER and then, on December 13, the JAI Council will make a decision based on the COREPER vote. ​It will be in March, just like the airline … They will take it, because there are some softwares to be implemented, they will take this⁤ time of three months. During the Easter holidays, more than likely, Romanians will come to‌ Schengen, argued Marcel ‌Ciolacu.
