Jannik Sinner’s Unbeaten Streak Against Top 20 Players:
Jannik Sinner has extended his undefeated run against top 20 players to 48 matches, leaving top tennis analysts and players, such as Boris Becker and Brad Gilbert, in disbelief[1].
Recent Controversy and Team Changes:
Sinner faced a doping scandal in 2024, testing positive for low levels of clostebol, a banned anabolic steroid, at the Indian Wells Masters. The substance was revealed to have been accidentally ingested through a product used by his physiotherapist to treat a wound[2]. This led to the departure of physiotherapist Giacomo Naldi and fitness trainer Umberto Ferrara from Sinner’s team[2].
Current Standing and Future Prospects:
Despite the controversy, Sinner has maintained his dominance; he has become the world number one and received the year-end No. 1 trophy at the Nitto ATP Finals. Tennis icon Boris Becker continues to view Sinner as a strong contender, labeling him as "the man to beat for a long time" as he continues his stellar career[1][3].
Other Key Players in the ATP:
Boris Becker also identifies Ben Shelton as a potential addition to the "new Big Three" in tennis, alongside Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz. Shelton has shown strong performance in the ATP, reaching a career-high position of world No. 13 in August and quarter-final runs at major events like the US Open[5].
