Borneo.TV Launches to Showcase Sabah Culture Globally
Kota Kinabalu,Sabah – A new streaming platform,Borneo.TV, has launched to showcase Sabah’s people, voices, and culture on an international stage. The digital broadcasting initiative aims to deliver authentic content, original documentaries, cultural arts, and the natural beauty of Sabah to a global audience.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, speaking at Tuesday’s launch, emphasized the platform’s role in empowering local talent.He said Borneo.TV provides a stage for Sabahan creatives to shape the state’s identity through their own narratives. The launch of this new digital media platform is a timely move in the era of Over-The-Top (OTT) streaming media, which no longer relies on conventional broadcasting channels, while providing local content creators with opportunities to penetrate wider markets.
Hajiji noted the state government’s support for Borneo.TV, viewing it as a strategic medium to share Sabah’s stories worldwide. He urged Borneo.TV personnel to approach their work as a creative art form,shaping the state’s image with values,identity,and meaningful narratives. He also encouraged local artists and digital influencers to utilize the platform to authentically represent Sabah communities.
“Today’s lifestyle changes, from interaction to entertainment, are all digitally driven. Borneo.TV is the right response to this shift and presents an opportunity for us to showcase our own content,” Hajiji said.
The launch included the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Sabah Maju jaya (SMJ) secretariat and IB Media Consultant Work Sdn Bhd, the company operating Borneo.TV.The platform operates without government funding, demonstrating private sector confidence in Sabah’s digital broadcasting potential.
Hajiji expressed appreciation to the SMJ Secretariat and IB Media for launching Borneo.TV under the Sabah Maju Jaya Roadmap 1.0,which prioritizes the development of the creative economy sector as one of the state’s main growth drivers. He urged support from the government,private sector,and public to create and share Sabah’s narratives.
