Bortoleto: P9 Spa Finish & Hungary Points Target for Hulkenberg
Bortoleto Secures Points Despite Challenging Conditions,Hulkenberg Reflects on Lessons Learned
Formula 1’s unpredictable nature was on full display as drivers navigated mixed weather conditions, with Gabriel Bortoleto securing his second points finish in three races by claiming eighth place in Austria. Meanwhile,Nico hulkenberg, despite a strong showing, finished just outside the points in twelfth, but remains optimistic about Sauber’s prospects at upcoming circuits.
Bortoleto’s Resilient drive in Austria
Gabriel Bortoleto expressed satisfaction with his performance in Austria, acknowledging that he extracted the maximum possible from the car under challenging, mixed-weather conditions.”I feel like we did everything we could with the car,” he stated. “Obviously you always expect a lot in these conditions when it’s raining and it dries up, everything can happen in the race. But honestly P9 was what we could do today.”
The young driver felt he had a strong race, even acknowledging that Liam Lawson was slightly faster and deserved the eighth-place points.”The car was there and I think [liam] Lawson was a bit faster and he deserves the P8 points and I feel like I did everything, so I need to be happy about that,” Bortoleto added. While he admitted to always wanting more and aiming for a better result than his previous eighth-place finish in Austria, he emphasized the importance of gratitude. “Obviously I always want more and that’s why… I really want to get there and do a better result than what I did in Austria, that was a P8, but we need to be grateful and I feel like that’s it for today.”
Hulkenberg’s Strategic Battle and Future Outlook
Nico Hulkenberg, who had recently celebrated his maiden F1 podium at Silverstone, found himself in a strategic battle during the austrian Grand Prix. He was running within the points but was forced into a second pit stop due to difficulties in managing tire wear on his medium compounds, a challenge that Bortoleto managed more effectively.
Despite a determined charge back through the field, Hulkenberg ultimately finished in twelfth place. However, he remains hopeful that the upcoming Hungaroring circuit will be a better fit for Sauber’s car, citing its numerous corners, expected high temperatures, and abrasive tyre wear characteristics. “A couple of lessons learnt I think. Good progress, obviously no result which is always a bit of a let down but Gabi got some points which is good for us in the Teams’ Championship,” the German commented.
Hulkenberg highlighted the team’s continued competitiveness in the midfield. “I think we were competitive once again in the midfield, we’re fighting with the usual suspects and I think that’s a positive,” he said. Looking ahead to the next race, he expressed enthusiasm for a track that he believes will better suit their package. “Looking ahead to next week, I think a track that should suit us better and one that I look forward to.”
