The Boston Red Sox have implemented a series of initiatives and events designed to engage and celebrate the Latino community in Massachusetts. These efforts include team-organized watch parties, specialized ticket offers, and the recognition of Latin American players within the organization.

On March 26, 2026, the Red Sox organized an Opening Day watch party at Peka, a Venezuelan restaurant located on Cambridge Street in Brighton. The event served as a gathering point for Latino fans to watch the team’s season opener, which took place on the road in Cincinnati. The Red Sox won that game 3-0 against the Reds.

The event at Peka featured team-branded flags and banners, with staff wearing Red Sox jerseys. Attendees dined on Venezuelan dishes such as empanadas, elote, and arepas while a deejay played music in both English and Spanish, including tracks by Justin Bieber and Bad Bunny.

Fans at the event noted the cultural significance of the team’s outreach. Gabby Diaz, a resident of Watertown and daughter of a Dominican household, stated that the team hosting an event for the Latino community is something that’s super special to us, one from a cultural standpoint, and also then from, I guess, a pride standpoint.

The interest in the team is further driven by the presence of stars from Venezuela and other Latin American countries, many of whom participated in the recent World Baseball Classic. Among the current roster is Wilyer Abreu, who has spoken about the personal significance of conducting interviews in English.

Hispanic Heritage Celebration

Beyond the start of the season, the Red Sox maintain specific programming to honor cultural identities. The team scheduled a Hispanic Heritage Celebration for Thursday, September 24.

Hispanic Heritage Celebration

As part of this celebration, ticket holders who purchase through a specific special offer receive an exclusive Red Sox Hispanic Heritage Celebration soccer jersey. These jerseys are provided in sizes S-XL and are distributed on a first-come, first-served basis.

The organization manages these promotions through the Red Sox Ticket Office, which handles inquiries and bookings for groups of 15 or more people.

Historical and Community Context

The connection between the Red Sox and Latino players is rooted in the team’s history. This legacy includes figures such as Luis Tiant and Pedro Martínez, who are recognized as part of the most significant rotations in the history of the franchise.

Community engagement also extends to digital spaces and local businesses. Latino fan groups on social media platforms continue to document the legacies of Latin American players who have marked the history of the team in Boston.

The integration of these celebrations into the team’s operational calendar reflects a broader effort to connect the professional sports franchise with the diverse demographic of the Boston metropolitan area, specifically through targeted events in neighborhoods like Brighton.
