Patriots’ Super Bowl Run Ends in Defeat Against Seahawks

February 9, 2026 – The New England Patriots’ improbable journey to Super Bowl LX concluded with a 29-13 loss to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The defeat marked a disappointing end to a season that exceeded expectations for a team under first-year head coach Mike Vrabel.

The Seahawks’ defense proved too formidable for the Patriots’ offense, led by quarterback Drake Maye, throughout the game. Maye struggled to find a rhythm, turning the ball over three times, and the Patriots offense generally failed to move the ball effectively. According to reports, the Patriots gained just one first down in the third quarter.

Seattle established an early lead, building a 9-0 advantage by halftime thanks to three field goals from Jason Myers. The Seahawks continued to control the game in the second half, holding a 12-0 lead after three quarters. While Maye managed to connect with Mack Hollins and Rhamondre Stevenson for touchdowns in the fourth quarter, the late scores were insufficient to mount a comeback.

The loss brings an end to what had been a remarkable season for the Patriots, who few predicted would reach the Super Bowl. Maye had reflected on the team’s journey prior to the game, stating, “We talked about at the beginning of the season, talking about our stories and what kind of hopes we had. And our hopes were to win the big game and win the Super Bowl, and look where we’re at now, and kind of those hopes are coming to a reality.” That reality, however, proved to be a difficult one on Sunday.

Head coach Mike Vrabel addressed his team after the loss, emphasizing the long-term perspective. “I reminded them that we are 307 days into what hopefully is a long, successful relationship and program and that it’s OK to be disappointed,” Vrabel said. “We have to be disappointed and upset together. I’m appreciative of them, thankful, grateful that I get to coach them.”

The game also featured an unusual incident when a fan ran onto the field. Patriots rookie wide receiver Kyle Williams was seen assisting in the apprehension of the fan, according to reports and photographic evidence.

The Seahawks’ victory was largely attributed to their dominant defensive performance, dubbed the “Dark Side” defense, which effectively neutralized the Patriots’ offensive threats. Sam Darnold led the Seahawks offense, supported by a relentless defensive unit orchestrated by head coach Mike Macdonald.

Levi’s Stadium, home of the San Francisco 49ers, hosted Super Bowl LX, marking the second time the stadium has hosted the event, with the previous occasion being a decade prior in 2016. The stadium, which can hold nearly 69,000 spectators, also hosted WrestleMania, representing its highest attended event.
