Boulazac Dominates Évreux, Improves playoff Positioning

BOULAZAC, France – Boulazac⁢ Basket Dordogne (BBD) delivered ⁣a decisive victory against ⁤Évreux on Saturday, winning 88-58. The win improves their position⁣ in⁣ the standings, though Blois remains a strong contender. ‍Blois defeated Chartres 99-76. The ⁣cumulative point differential will determine the champion if Blois and⁣ BBD remain tied at the end of ⁢the regular ⁤season. Currently, Blois holds a +337 advantage, while BBD stands at +293.

Following ⁣a 21-point victory over Pau (84-63) earlier in the week, hugo Robineau and his teammates overwhelmed Évreux. A focused approach allowed them to control the game, even⁤ though Évreux initially found opportunities inside and secured second-chance points.

Évreux kept pace with Boulazac early on, fueled⁢ by a strong performance from robineau, who scored ⁣the team’s first 10 points with both inside and outside shots. Boulazac then tightened their defense in ‍the paint and⁤ improved their defensive rebounding.

Robineau Leads scoring with 24 Points

Évreux gradually fell behind as Boulazac increased the pressure. A dunk by Babacar Mbye ⁢extended ⁢the lead (19-12) in the first quarter. Boulazac dominated in rebounding, capitalizing on Évreux’s increasing clumsiness against the strong Périgord defense. Da Silva reduced the ⁢deficit slightly at the end of the first quarter (25-17), but Évreux ⁢struggled to contain Boulazac, who opened up a 7-0 run (34-19) in ⁢the second quarter. The game’s intensity then seemed to wane, with both teams struggling to score consistently. Despite Boulazac⁤ maintaining a lead (38-27), fatigue‍ appeared to affect them after recent matches against Roanne and Pau.

This fatigue was evident in a sequence⁢ of passes without a shot attempt, leading to a 24-second ⁤violation. Évreux capitalized on this lull, closing the gap (42-37) through simple plays.

Boulazac faced offensive foul calls and turnovers, allowing Évreux to mount a comeback (45-43), much to the crowd’s dismay.

The Palio ⁢arena erupted when Robineau, after avoiding an Évreux equalizer, executed a layup and converted a free throw (51-44). ⁤The‍ momentum shifted again, and Boulazac regained a 10-point lead, capped off by a⁢ basket from Thomas Ville to conclude the third⁣ quarter at 56-48.

Évreux attempted to stay ‍competitive,⁣ but a three-pointer from⁤ Samuta Avea extended‍ Boulazac’s lead (64-51). City then hit a long-range shot, further demoralizing the Évreux team.

Boulazac’s relentless ⁤pressure ultimately proved too much for Évreux, who struggled with their shooting as ⁢the game progressed. The final score reflected Boulazac’s dominance.
