Principal and Husband Tortured in Dhamirhat Naogaon
In Dhamirhat Naogaon, there were allegations of torture of the principal along with her husband by tying them in the classroom to force them to resign. This incident took place at Reditla Academy of Toy Union of Upazila on Tuesday afternoon. In the evening, army and police personnel went to the spot and rescued them.
After the rescue, the head teacher along with her husband were taken to the Upazila Health Complex at around 7:30pm yesterday. Then the doctors advised to send them to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.
The victims are Jinnatun Parveen, principal of Reditla Academy and her husband Ashraful Haque. Ashraful is working as Assistant Professor (Computer) in Palashbari Chimunia Dakhil Madrasa of Aranagar Union.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Dhamirhat Police Station Bahauddin Faruqi said, ‘After receiving the news, the police and members of the army rescued the chief along with the husband at around 6 pm yesterday. No complaints have yet been received from the victims.’
The angry principal, Jinnatun Parveen, said, ‘Yesterday morning when I went to school, some students and parents led by assistant teacher (computer) Kawsar started pressuring me to resign. I was tied in a room with a rope and tortured from morning to night because I did not want to resign. When my husband came forward in this incident, he was also attached to me and was being tortured.
Ashraful Haque said, ‘When we go to school in the morning to give birth to our wives, we are bound in fear. I was tortured in different parts of the body including my testicles.’ He said that both were injured in different parts of their bodies.
Reditla Academy Assistant (Computer) Professor Kausar’s mobile phone was switched off, so it was not possible to comment on the complaint.
Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Asma Khatun told Ajker Patrika, ‘A week ago, students formed a human chain in the Upazila Parishad building to demand the resignation of the principal of Reditala School and file a complaint against that teacher. An investigation committee was formed in view of the complaint. They investigated this last Monday.’
UNO also said, ‘This morning when the principal went to school, pressure was put on him to resign. He was saved by legal aid when he found out he was locked in a room at the school he didn’t want to resign.’
