Tragic Collision on BR-381 Claims Three Lives, Injures One

A devastating collision between a car and a truck on the BR-381 highway in Santa Luzia, Minas Gerais, has resulted in three fatalities and left one person critically injured. The accident occurred on Friday, February 20, 2026, according to reports from the Polícia Rodoviária Federal (PRF).

The impact of the crash was severe, completely destroying the passenger vehicle. Images from the scene show the car split in two, with debris scattered across the roadway. The truck involved reportedly veered off the road and into a wooded area adjacent to the highway.

PRF officials stated the collision took place at kilometer 437 of the BR-381, in the direction of Belo Horizonte. One individual was transported to Hospital João XXIII in Belo Horizonte with serious injuries. Family members were present at the scene, according to initial reports.

The Nova 381 concessionaire, responsible for maintaining this section of the highway, reported significant traffic congestion in both directions following the accident. While the extent of the traffic delays wasn’t immediately detailed, motorists were advised to expect disruptions.

Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. According to witnesses, the truck driver fled the scene and had not been located as of the latest updates. The Polícia Civil has been contacted and is expected to provide further information as the investigation progresses.

The accident occurred near a landfill and a gas station. Residents in the area reported hearing a loud noise around 5:30 AM local time. The Corpo de Bombeiros (Fire Department) confirmed they had not received a direct call for assistance at the scene, but were aware of the incident through other channels.
