Weather Forecast: Heavy Rains and Strong Winds Expected in Mexico

Overview

The National Weather Service (SMN) and the National Water Commission (Conagua) predict that cold front number 3 will produce occasional heavy to very heavy rain, electric shocks, and possible hail over the north and north-east of the national territory.

Regional Weather Forecast

Valley of Mexico

A mild to warm environment and cloudy skies are expected with rain in Mexico City in the afternoon. Occasional heavy rain in the State of Mexico could reduce visibility, cause landslides and floods.

Baja California Peninsula

Partly cloudy skies and no rain are expected on the peninsula, with winds of 15 to 30 kilometers per hour (km/h) and gusts of up to 40 km/h in the region.

North Pacific

Showers are expected along with electric shocks in Sinaloa and no rain in Sonora.

Central Pacific

Cloudy skies with occasional heavy rain, electric shocks, and possible hail are expected in Nayarit, Jalisco, Colima, and Michoacán, which could reduce visibility, cause landslides and floods, and increase river and stream levels.

South Pacific

A warm environment is predicted with occasional intense rains in Chiapas and Oaxaca, as well as very heavy rains in Guerrero, all with possible electric shocks and hail.

Gulf of Mexico

Occasional heavy rain is expected in Tabasco, very heavy in Veracruz, and heavy in Tamaulipas.

Yucatan Peninsula

Occasional very heavy rains are expected along with electric shocks in Campeche, Yucatan, and Quintana Roo, which could create ponds and floods.

Mesa del Norte

Cloudy skies with occasional very heavy rain are expected in Coahuila and heavy rain in Chihuahua, Nuevo León, San Luis Potosí, and Durango.

Central Table

Rain is expected in Puebla and Morelos, with possible electric shocks and hail, which could also reduce visibility, cause landslides and floods, and increase the levels of rivers and streams.
