Silver Spring, MD – Former Turnstile guitarist Brady Ebert has been arrested and charged with attempted second-degree murder and first-degree assault after allegedly hitting the father of the band’s lead singer, Brendan Yates, with his car. The incident occurred on March 29th in Silver Spring, Maryland, and resulted in William Yates, 79, sustaining “severe physical trauma” to his legs, requiring surgery, according to a statement from Turnstile.

Ebert, who was dismissed from the band in 2022, allegedly drove to the Yates’ home, honked his horn, and yelled obscenities at family members before intentionally striking William Yates with his vehicle. According to police reports, Ebert returned to the scene after initially leaving and told Yates he “deserved it.”

Escalating Issues Since Departure

Yates told police that Ebert had been “causing issues with his family since being fired from the band,” WBALTV reports. Prior to the alleged assault, Ebert is accused of harassing Yates’ daughter, Erin Gerber, and her husband on March 30th, honking his horn and shouting obscenities at their home.

Band’s Previous Statement

“Turnstile cut ties with Brady Ebert in 2022 in response to a consistent pattern of harmful behavior affecting himself, the band, and the community. We chose to protect his privacy and the circumstances around his departure, even when he did nothing to be deserving of that protection. Over the past few months, his threats only escalated further…”

The band released a statement to Pitchfork following Ebert’s arrest, detailing a history of problematic behavior. While they initially chose to protect Ebert’s privacy after his dismissal, they stated that his threats had escalated in recent months.

Legal Proceedings

Ebert made his first court appearance on April 1st, and a bond hearing was scheduled for April 2nd, according to Pitchfork. His attorney, Andrew D. Alpert, declined to comment on the case.

William Yates is currently recovering from surgery. The incident is under investigation by the Montgomery County Police Department.
