Thiruvananthapuram: The organs of Bijilal Krishna (42), who was declared brain-dead following a road accident, have saved the lives of six people. A native of Keezharoor, Bijilal passed away while undergoing treatment at the Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram.

The accident happened around 5.50 am on July 7, 2025, at Kowdiar when Bijilal’s two-wheeler collided with a truck supplying water. Despite intensive care, his condition deteriorated, and brain death was confirmed on July 17. Following this, his family consented to donate his organs.

As per the Kerala State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (K-SOTTO), his kidneys, liver, heart valves, and corneas were transplanted to patients in various hospitals. One kidney went to a recipient at the Government Medical College Hospital, Thiruvananthapuram, while the other kidney and liver were transplanted at KIMS Hospital. His heart valves were donated to a patient at the Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology, and the corneas were given to the Regional Institute of Ophthalmology.

Health and Women & Child Development Minister Veena George extended her condolences to Bijilal’s family and commended their selfless act. K-SOTTO coordinated the entire organ donation and transplant process.
