Brandon Roy Jr. Following Father’s NBA Legacy
Brandon Roy Jr. is among a new generation of basketball players with NBA bloodlines making their mark.As the son of former NBA All-Star Brandon Roy, he is navigating the pressures and expectations that come with a famous name.
Roy’s father was a standout player in the Pacific Northwest. He secured three state championships at Garfield High School before becoming Pac-10 Player of the Year at Washington. Roy then made three NBA All-Star appearances with the Portland Trail Blazers. In 2007, he was named NBA Rookie of the Year, a season after earning consensus first-team All-American honors with the Huskies.
Injuries, however, cut short the elder Roy’s career. Washington retired his No. 3 jersey during his NBA career. Knee degeneration forced his retirement in 2011 after five comeback appearances with the minnesota Timberwolves and another knee surgery.
Other NBA players’ sons are also making waves. Twins Cameron and Cayden Boozer, sons of Carlos Boozer, are considered elite prospects committed to Duke. Bryce James, son of LeBron James, will play college basketball at Arizona.
