Brandon Sklenar Supports Blake Lively Amid “It Ends With Us” Controversy
“It Ends With Us” star Stands With Blake Lively Amid Harassment Allegations
Brandon Sklenar, who starred alongside Blake Lively in the film “It Ends With Us,” has publicly voiced his support for the actress following her allegations of sexual harassment and a smear campaign orchestrated by co-star and director Justin Baldoni.
Sklenar took to his Instagram story on Wednesday, urging his followers to read Lively’s complaint against Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios. “For the love of God read this,” he wrote, tagging Lively with a heart emoji. Sklenar played Atlas Corrigan, the childhood sweetheart of Lively’s character in the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel.
Sklenar joins a growing chorus of voices supporting Lively, including Hoover herself, Lively’s “Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants” castmates, actress Amber Heard, and director Paul Feig.
Sony Pictures, the distributor of “It Ends With Us,” also released a statement expressing their unwavering support for Lively.”We have previously expressed our support for Blake in connection with her work on and for the film,” a Sony Pictures Entertainment spokesperson told Variety. “We fully and firmly reiterate that support today. Further, we strongly condemn any reputational attacks on her. Any such attacks have no place in our business or in a civil society.”
SAG-AFTRA, the actors’ union, echoed this sentiment, praising Lively’s courage in speaking out. “These are startling and troubling allegations. Employees have every right to raise issues of concern or to file complaints. Retaliation for reporting misconduct or inappropriate behavior is illegal and wrong,” the association said in a statement. “We applaud Blake Lively’s courage in speaking out on issues of retaliation and harassment and for her request to have an intimacy coordinator for all scenes with nudity or sexual content. This is a critically important step that helps ensure a safe set.”
In the wake of Lively’s allegations, Baldoni was dropped by WME, the talent agency that also represents Lively.
What’s Next?
Lively is requesting that all future scenes with nudity or sexual content on the movie have an intimacy coordinator present. The situation is still developing, and it remains to be seen what further repercussions Baldoni and Wayfarer Studios will face.
“It Ends With Us” Star Shows Solidarity: An Exclusive Interview
Emily: Hey Sarah, did you hear about what’s going on with Blake Lively and justin Baldoni from “It Ends With us”?
Sarah: Honestly, just snippets. Something about harassment allegations? It sounds pretty messy.
Emily: It really is. So, Blake filed a formal complaint alleging that Justin, who was also the director of the film, sexually harassed her on set. She’s also claiming he and his team tried to damage her reputation after she spoke up.
Sarah: Wow, that’s horrible. Do people believe her?
Emily: It seems like a lot of people are supporting her. Brandon Sklenar, who played her love interest in the film, actually posted on Instagram urging everyone to read Blake’s complaint. Even Colleen Hoover, the author of the book, is standing with her.
Sarah: Interesting. Has anyone commented on this from the “It Ends with Us” production side?
Emily: Yeah, Sony Pictures, the distributor, released a statement saying they fully support Blake and condemn any attacks on her. The actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, also chimed in, praising her courage and calling for intimacy coordinators on all sets that have nudity or sexual scenes.
Sarah: That makes sense. This whole thing sounds really upsetting. What happens next?
Emily: Things are still unfolding. But reports say that Justin baldoni was dropped by his talent agency,WME,after the news broke.
sarah: Yikes.I can only imagine how difficult this must be for Blake.
Emily:** It’s a really serious situation, and hopefully, it brings about meaningful changes in the industry. Blake is calling for the mandatory presence of intimacy coordinators on sets with sensitive scenes – which could be a huge step forward for actors’ safety and well-being.
