Braves Name Fredi González Third Base Coach in Coaching Role Change
The Atlanta Braves are making a notable coaching adjustment, bringing back former manager Fredi González to serve as their new third base coach.The move, announced Monday, sees González replacing Matt Tuiasosopo, who will take on a new role within the organization.
Manager Brian snitker acknowledged the unusual nature of the situation. The Braves opened a three-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
“There probably aren’t many instances where people flip jobs like that,” Snitker said, recalling his time as González’s third base coach. “I enjoyed my time as his third base coach, and the relationship that we created and the trust and friendship.”
González managed Atlanta from 2011 to 2016,with Snitker as his third base coach for the first three seasons. Snitker stepped in as manager when González was dismissed. Now, the roles are reversed, with gonzález supporting Snitker from third base.
“When I replaced him 10 years ago, it was bittersweet because I was replacing one of my best friends,” Snitker said.
Before rejoining the Braves, González was an umpire supervisor for MLB. He also served as the Marlins’ third base coach from 2017 to 2019 and the Orioles’ bench coach from 2020 to 2024.

“The players are all really happy that we could keep him in the organization,” Snitker said. “He’s going to do a great job. They had different guys sharing [infield duties]. Having a dedicated guy like that is going to be good for our minor league system.”
